Elba also originated the role of John Luther, so the detective is very much his own character, without the baggage of the six actors that have previously given their own interpretations of Ian Fleming's James Bond. With a cinematic history of over 60 years, James Bond is a predictable character, even with the danger that Daniel Craig injected into the role. However, Luther turns down the cocktail - a move reflective of Elba's own sentiments towards the role of 007. During Luther: The Fallen Sun, Idris Elba's dishonored detective is offered a martini, James Bond's iconic, shaken drink of choice.
